NPR recently re-started an old series - "This I Believe" where people write about and discuss the core beliefs that guide their daily lives. After listening to a few of the essays, I too wanted to add my "This I Believe". But as I was trying to get started, I found that in addition to the many things I believe and hold true to my heart, there were things, and issues, and memories, that I:
  • Remember
  • Come back to
So, instead here is my

These I . . . . .
  • Hold Dear
    • My Family
    • Kindness
  • Remember
  • Strive for
  • Believe
  • Would Like to Mend / Fix
Maybe once, or twice, after I go through this list I too will be able to narrow down that basic core that defines my believes and guide my daily life.

Here also are a few of from the NPR Archives.

Finally Finished Da Vinci Code

It took me almost 3 months to the day, but I have finally finished it. This is definitely NOT as good as "Angels & Deamons" :o( But I guess I kinda see why they'd be making a movie of this and not Anges & Deamons.

Which reminds me - I just found out that Audrey Tautou will be playing Sophie Neveu, Jean Reno will be playing Captain Bezu Fache and Ian McKellen Sir Leigh Teabing. Of course we already knew that Tom Hanks was to play Robert Langdon.

My Videos on Google

I just found out about the service, https://upload.video.google.com/, and have been wondering - why would I want my videos on google?
  • Safe storage
  • Retreive from anywhere
But at the same time, what about:
  • Privacy
Of course, I guess, I could upload footage that aren't very private. I could upload videos of a Sunrise, or a Sunset.

Healthier Me ;o)

OK, my health is not in the best of state. I know it.

Some of the things I'm doing currently:

  • Stop Coffee (have already stopped on March 4th)
  • Cut down Meat / Fish
  • Add regular Physical Activity

Stop Coffee: Over the last few years I have gotten fairly hooked on Coffee :o( It's to a point now that I have been needing coffee just to wake up.

Cut down Meat / Fish: Last year I tried the low carb diet (had successfully lost ~36lbs over a 5-6 month period). This time, I am going to try the other way around - cut down on meat (preferably totally, but practically probably significantly).

Add regular Physical Activity: I will never be very physically active - I know it. I prefer to sit around to doing stuff. But I will add some sort of physical activity (not necessarily too strenous) that is about an hour, an hour and a half long. Walking would be good.

Dining Blindly

Just heard of this really "interesting" dining experience. The name of the restaurant is "Blind Cow" and it's in Switzerland. I heard of it on NPR and later Googled fot it.

The concept is novel to say the list. Having heard interviews of a few of the diners I am not sure if I would really like to participate in such an experience. I am fairly certain most of my friends would NOT be interested.

Blockbuster's Movie Pass

Yes, I too have signed up for it :o( The deal is, for $9.99/month (for the first month, then it goes up to $14.99) I get to keep 1 movie at a time with me.

I was about to take 2 movies, which came to about $8.50, and the guy at the counter told me about the "new offer".

But I have a plan ;o) I WILL make the most of this (see as many movies as humanly possible) and discontinue by the 3rd week of the plan / $9.99 ($10.81 w/tax).

So far, I have seen:

  1. Week 1
    1. Manchurian Candidate
    2. Dodgeball
    3. Girl with a Pearl Earring
    4. Eulogy
  2. Week 2
    1. Garfield
    2. Where's the Party Yaar?
    3. Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle
  3. Week 3
    1. Hero
    2. A Home at the End of the World
  4. Week 4
    1. Nepolian Dynamite
    2. Before Sunrise
    3. Before Sunset
Here is a list of movies that I know I still want to watch:
  1. Bridget Jones' Diary - Edge of Reason
  2. Finding Neverland
  3. Being Julia
Had also meant to rent The Incredibles. But not being able find a copy available for 2 weeks, I went and bought one.

Higher Education - Cost vs Value

No doubt getting a College Degree is beneficial. But how much real value does it add. "What" exactly is it that's valuable? The degree or the Education? Are we really getting our moneys worth?

I ask these questions not because I am against College Education, but because I am fully convinced that I would have done better had a pursued a different path.

Gadgets - taking the Current to the Next Level

As it is, we've got some really cool technologies commercially available today that makes me very excited. With Wireless Networking, Storage Devices (that are physically smaller, but capable of holding much more than we've ever been able to) and some really cool ideas we're able to store thousands and thousands of songs and pictures (and hopefuly soon - short length videos) on a device that is 4" x 2.5" x 0.75" and weighs under 6.5 oz. We are also able to play our songs from a Laptop (or a PC) to our Home Stereo. If these technologies were merged we would be able to take all of our music, picture and home videos with us whereever we go and play (stream) them on any device (with the proper capability).

Retirement and Preparing for it

We all plan to get to a point when we will not "need" to earn a living. We may still choose to continue to work beyond such a point, but to be able to get to it is the primary goal.

Saving and planning on generating income from that saving is definitely a huge part of it.
